WW1 Newman Clock Co #7, Chicago - New York, Brass US Navy Military Deck
Clock, Winds up and Keeps Time. This solid brass U.S. Navy clock is in nice
original condition. The face has Roman numerals and a second hand. The hands
are very decorative. It has a replacement key. The clock diameter is 4 5/8"
from edge to edge on the face. The glass opening diameter is 4" (I am not sure
if the glass was replaced) The back diameter is 5 1/4" and the depth is 2
1/2". I have not seen or found any example of this clock made by the Newman
Clock Co. Number 7 is stamped on the back. Perhaps this was the 7th one
manufactured?
The Newman Clock Company was established in 1878. It was sold to Charles
Renshaw, a New York Industrialist, in 1909. In 1923, The Newman Clock Company
consolidated with The Watchman's Clock and Supply Company in Chicago. After
several other company name changes it became the Detex Clock Company,
specializing in watchman's carry clocks. The Detex Clock Company continues in
business today.
